THIDA General Assembly and Mini Halal-Expo 2025: Strengthening Global Halal Industry Alliances

Taipei, May 21, 2025 – The Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association (THIDA) proudly concluded its 2025 Annual General Assembly and Mini Halal-Expo at the Howard Civil Service International House, Taipei. The event attracted over 600 Halal-certified companies and a distinguished lineup of global Halal stakeholders, reaffirming Taiwan’s commitment to international Halal cooperation and industry growth.

Unifying Halal Stakeholders for Global Collaboration

The gathering brought together dignitaries and key stakeholders from across the Islamic world and Taiwan’s public and private sectors. Distinguished guests included representatives from the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office, Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre, Malaysian Investment Development Authority, The Jordanian Commercial Office, Brunei Darussalam Trade and Tourism Office.

Taiwan’s government representation included senior officials from the Taipei City Government, Ministry of Agriculture, Office of Trade Negotiations (Executive Yuan), Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI), and other leading university representatives such as National Taiwan University, National Chung Hsing University, Taipei Medical University, etc.

Event Highlights

The event opened with a warm welcome, followed by a presentation video produced by THIDA highlighting new global Halal regulatory frameworks and market trends. During the forum, key insights were shared on the current Halal certification system in Indonesia, with a focus on SIHALAL (Indonesia’s Halal Certification Platform) and the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration (BPOM). These updates were especially relevant for Taiwanese companies seeking to expand into Indonesian and broader Southeast Asian markets.

The Indonesian representative further emphasized the importance of cooperation following the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) signed in 2023 between THIDA and Indonesia’s BPJPH, ensuring that Halal certificates issued by THIDA are officially recognized in Indonesia. He added, “Indonesia will support Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association in advancing global Halal economic cooperation, including through the strengthening of strategic partnership.”

The Malaysian representative echoed this collaborative spirit, stating, “Halal is no longer solely about religion; it is rapidly transitioning to a lifestyle,” as she outlined Malaysia’s industry-leading Halal ecosystem, which generated over USD14 billion in exports in 2024. She also highlighting the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), set to return in September 2025. “MIHAS offers a critical entry point for businesses into the global Halal market.”

Mini Halal-Expo and Strategic Session

Following the speeches, attendees explored the Mini Halal-Expo, where a diverse array of Halal-certified food, beverage, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and chemical products were exhibited. The event concluded with a closed-door session for THIDA members, which included the annual work report presentation and budget submission for 2025.

As of March 2025, THIDA reported a total of 744 Valid Halal Certificates for industries across Taiwan — a testament to the growing awareness and industry commitment to Halal integrity.

A Platform for Growth and Strategic Cooperation

THIDA’s 2025 General Assembly Meeting reaffirmed the association’s vital role in bridging Taiwan’s Halal industry with the global market. Through regulatory harmonization, mutual recognition, and shared goals, THIDA continues to promote Halal excellence and cross-border industry alignment.
